Any citizen who wishes to open a new shop or a commercial establishment wants to commence its business within the jurisdiction of the Government of Maharashtra, has to register itself under The Bombay Shops and Commercial Establishment Act, 1948. A Shop and Establishment License is mandatory and the objective is to secure uniform benefits for employees working in different establishments, from shops, commercial establishments, and residential hotels to restaurants, theatres, and other places of public amusement or entertainment.If you are starting up your own shop, start-up, or any other business establishment then in that case, it’s mandatory for you to register your shop/establishment and obtain a Shop and Establishment license. However, this registration is not compulsory for businesses that fall under the purview of the Factories Act of 1948.
