A society is a union of individuals united by mutual consent to consider, determine and act jointly for some common purpose. Societies are usually registered to promote charitable activities such as education, health, environment, arts, religion, culture, music, sports, etc. The need for a legal entity, which could own, possess and manage the funds and assets for achievement of charitable or promotional objects, as laid down by donors, is the result of these endeavours. A society can be formed to achieve this end. The said societies are governed by the Societies Registration Act of 1860 and the said act is amended by the respective states.
